23-year-old star replaces injured Deepak Chahar for remaining ODIs vs South Africa

New Delhi: In the senior selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all-rounder Washington Sundar was in the Indian squad on Saturday instead of injured pacer Deepak Chahar for the remaining two games of the One-Day-International (ODI) series between India and South Africa. Chahar had a sore back after the third and final T20I match against South Africa in Indore and was not included in India’s playing XI in the first ODI in Lucknow.

The Indian pacesetter is now returning to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the medical team there will accompany him. Shikhar Dhawan-led team India faced a 9-run defeat in the rain-stricken Ind vs SA 1st ODI. Both teams now play the second ODI on Sunday in Ranchi. Following this, the third and final ODI between India and South Africa will be played on October 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

PTI reported Friday that Chahar had suffered a sprained ankle.

“Deepak sustained a sprained ankle, but it’s not too serious. However, a few days of rest may be advisable,” a source told PTI on terms of anonymity.
