Adipurush: Rajasthan Minister Pratap Singh Kachariyawas Supports Hindu Seers’ Demand for ‘Sanatan Censor Board’

Jaipur: Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Adipurush’ has been in the news ever since the makers unveiled the film’s teaser, which is based on the epic Ramayana.

The teaser provoked a big backlash over the appearance of Saif’s fierce Ravana, who is shown sporting a beard and haircut. Many people across the country criticized the creators for allegedly hurting their religious feelings. In fact, a body of Hindu seers, Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti, has advocated the formation of a Sanatan censorship council for misrepresenting Hindu gods and goddesses in Bollywood movies.

Now Rajasthan minister Pratap Singh Kachariyawas has come out to support Hindu saints in their demand for the formation of the Sanatan Censor Board. “I am with the saints. I request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look at the demands of saints and give permission to formulate the Sanatan Censor Board,” Pratap said.

Also, a plea for a stay-at-law before the film’s release was recently moved in a court in Delhi. The plea alleged that Adipurush portrayed Lord Rama and Hanuman in an unwarranted and inaccurate manner while wearing leather thongs.

The plea has been advanced by lawyer Raj Gaurav against producer Bhushan Kumar and director Om Raut. Aided by Om Raut, the ‘Adipurush’ teaser also garnered negative comments from the netizens about the “poor quality of VFX used in the film”. Now it remains to be seen whether the film can see the light of day on January 12, 2023.
