‘After Article 370, it’s time to eradicate J&K terrorism’: Amit Shah

Srinagar: Union Minister Amit Shah concluded his three-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night with a crucial high-level security meeting in Srinagar. After the meeting, Shah said: “After the repeal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the time has come for terrorism to be completely eradicated from UT”. Amit Shah ordered the security chief to step up counter-terrorist operations to make J&K “terror-free”. The pivotal security review meeting was attended by top security officials including J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh, ADGP Vijay Kumar, GoC 15 Corps, DG BSF, IG BSF and a team from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to reliable sources, Amit Shah was given a powerpoint presentation on the progress made in the field of anti-terror and anti-infiltration. “The interior minister commended the security services for their role after Article 370 in countering terrorism and preventing infiltration,” said a source familiar with the meeting.

Amit Shah expressed his gratitude for the “improved numbers” of violence-related incidents, including a decrease in killings of security forces and civilians. The Home Secretary also welcomed intelligence-based counter-terror operations and stated that security forces must step up operations to wipe out terrorism from J&K soil so that people can have real democracy and reap the benefits of peace.

The Home Secretary emphasized that the common man should feel free and live a life without fear, while those who cause trouble, especially the anti-peace elements, including OGWs and supporters, should be crushed to the bone.

Challenges related to social media, including “online propaganda” launched by handlers sitting across the street, were also discussed at the meeting, at which the interior minister emphasized, “adopting a lasting counter-mechanism” including blocking of the pages that try to radicalize young people through online platforms. Sources said the interior minister called for steps to be taken to reach out to youth and improve district-level sports infrastructure to keep youth engaged.

Shah also praised the military for protecting the borders and stopping the infiltration. Expressing satisfaction with near zero infiltration and stating that the government is providing the latest equipment to the military and BSF to monitor the borders and detect the infiltration along the LoC and international borders.
