Asian Cup Women: India beat UAE by 104 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues shines with bat

New Delhi: Star Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 76 runs to help the Indian women’s cricket team defeat the UAE by 104 runs at Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. The Indian women’s cricket team now tops the points list with a third win in a row. Chasing the total of 179 runs, the UAE’s batters struggled constantly and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Indian ace spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad conceded a boundary on the very first pass from her over by Esha Rohit Oza, but she retaliated by scalping Oza’s wicket on the next throw. She took another wicket in the same, wreaking havoc on the UAE’s batters.

Kavisha Egodage and Khushi Sharma tried to score some runs, but wickets kept falling. However, they had a partnership of 58 runs in the middle and batted well for their side. Earlier, after batting first, India scored a massive 178 runs with half-century help from Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma.

Rodrigues played with the bat with a brilliant 75 not out and Deepti supported her well too, playing an excellent 64 run knockout. Smriti Mandhana stepped onto the field as stand-in skipper and replaced Harmanpreet Kaur as captain.

Short score: India 178/5 in 20 overs (Jemimah Rodrigues 75, Deepti Sharma 64; Mahika Gaur 1/27) vs UAE 74/4 (Kavisha Egodage 30, Khushi Sharma 29; Rajeshwari Gayakwad 2/20).
