Assam Rifles Honors Star Sprinter Hima Das

New Delhi: On behalf of Assam Rifles, Haflong Battalion of Headquarters 21 Sector AR under the auspices of Chief Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) honored Indian sprinter Hima Das at Daulagupu Stadium Haflong on Sunday, ANI reported. Assam Rifles honored legendary sprinter and national record holder Hima Das, Arjuna Awardee & DSP of Assam Police, during her visit to Dima Hasao for the promotion of sports. According to a report in ANI, Hima Das’s congratulation ceremony was attended by 28 schools belonging to Dima Hasao, Minister Nandita Garlosa and other district sports authorities.

“It was an opportunity for Assam Rifles to encourage sports that can develop society and steer the youth in the right direction, resulting in an extensive process of nation building,” said an Assam Rifles statement, ANI reported.

“Miss Hima Das has taken the baton for her generation from the greatest athletes of the Northeastern States and she has an image that every generation after her will strive to emulate,” the statement added.

At the 2018 U-20 World Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland, Hima Das became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the championship. The ace Indian sprinter also holds the record of winning two golds and a silver in the 2018 edition of the Games. Hima Das still holds the national record in the 400m race, having completed it in 50.79 seconds at the 2018 Asian Games.

PM Modi congratulated the Indian athletes as he received them at his residence after CWG 2022.

Hima Das expressed her elation as she was honored by Prime Minister Modi for her performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, with sprinter Hima Das giving the traditional Assamese gamocha.

Hima wrote on her Twitter handle: “Delighted to receive blessings from our Honorable Prime Minister – Shri @narendramodi Ji, under Commonwealth Games 2022. Fortunately, we have offered him our traditional gamcha, wrapped with immense gratitude from all of Assam.”
