‘Bakrid mein bachenge toh Muharram mein nachenge’: Mallikarjun Kharge on the face of Congress Prime Minister in 2024 polls

Bhopal: All India Congress Committee presidential candidate Mallikarjun Kharge reached Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal, on Wednesday to call on congressional leaders to vote for him. When media outlets asked Kharge who would be the face of Congress’ prime ministerial post in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the veteran Congress leader said: There is a saying “Bakrid mein bachenge toh Muharram mein nachenge”. Let this election be over first and let me be president, then we’ll see. The election of the chairman of the All India Congress Committee will take place on October 17. Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor and Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge compete for the top post. Both leaders are currently going to states and calling on Congressional leaders to vote in their favor to ensure their victory.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mallikarjun Khargehas dismissed rumors that he will have the support of the Gandhi family in the current party’s presidential election. Kharge made it clear that his name was not suggested by party leader Sonia Gandhi and dismissed speculation that he would receive any support from the party’s interim president or her relatives.

The octogenarian leader went on to say: “Someone has spread this rumor to discredit the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi and me. She has clearly stated that she will not participate in the party elections, nor will she come to support any candidate. “
