Ben Stokes responds to Harsha Bhogle’s tweets about controversial runout

New Delhi: England’s cricket team’s star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, reacted strongly to famed Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle who criticized the English media for their reactions to Indian women’s cricket team player Deepti Sharma knocking out Charlie Dean at the end of the attack. Stokes took to Twitter to refute Harsha’s claim, citing English media outlets criticizing the run-out of a non-striker who backed too far could be a “cultural thing”.

“Harsha… bringing culture into people’s mind about a Mankad?” Stokes wrote in one of his tweets.

“Harsha.. The 2019 World Cup final was over 2 years ago, I’m reliving to this day numerous posts calling me all sorts of Indian fans, does this bother you? (sic),” Stokes wrote in another tweet .

“Is this a culture thing?? ….definitely not, I’m getting messages about the overthrows of people all over the world because people all over the world have been commenting about the Mankad resignation, not just people who are English,” he wrote in response to yet another tweet from Bhogle.

“What about the reaction of the rest of the world to this particular incident? England are not the only cricket-playing nation to speak about the ruling,” Stokes continued.

A huge controversy erupted on social media after India’s Deepti Sharma England’s Charlotte Dean ‘mankadette’ for slipping too far at the end of the non-rush hour during the Indian women’s cricket team vs England’s women’s third One-Day international (ODI) at Lords’ stadium. With Dean’s run out, Team India achieved a historic 3-0 clean sweep over England to give legendary sailor Jhulan Goswami a fairytale farewell in her last international assignment.
