BIG evidence in West Bengal teacher recruitment scam: ED seizes CD, letter mentioning Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate, which recently arrested MLA Manik Bhattacharya of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in connection with the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam, has reportedly collected several incriminating documents and digital evidence pointing to the involvement of several prominent individuals in the scam. . According to reports, the Central Financial Investigation Agency has also seized a letter suggesting transferring money to various bank accounts and a reference to the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee – all pointing to the fact that huge amounts of money have been taken from people rather than jobs. to provide to them.

The central research firm also claimed to have seized a CD that allegedly contained the names and numbers of candidates selected for the state elementary teacher exam, among other key pieces of evidence in the multi-crore teacher recruitment scam.

According to the sources, the agency also claimed to have found a letter purportedly addressed to CM Mamata Banerjee confirming that 44 candidates each paid Rs 7 lakh in exchange for a job and that the said amount was allegedly collected by a TMC office carrier.

One may recall that on Tuesday the Enforcement Directorate arrested Trinamool Congress legislator and former West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) President Manik Bhattacharya in connection with the multi-crore WBSSC scam involving irregularities in the recruitment.

In his first indictment presented before the PMLA special court last month, the ED named Manik Bhattacharya and also mentioned some crucial details about how he played a key role in the recruitment irregularity scam.

In its indictment, the agency also cited some telephone communication between Bhattacharya and former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, which clearly pointed to the former WBBPE president’s involvement in the scam. Partha Chatterjee is already on remand in the case.

ED sources said Bhattacharya played a key role in increasing the actual number scored by unsuitable candidates to accommodate them in the recruitment process.

“There are numerous other allegations, including illegally collecting money from individuals gaining admission into Bachelor of Education colleges in the state. He also indulged in massive irregularities in the teachers’ aptitude test for the recruitment of teachers in the state. primary education in several state-run schools in West Bengal,” the ED officials said.

It is also alleged that he selectively increased the grades of some candidates in teachers’ aptitude tests after errors were discovered in the admission test questionnaire.

Before being arrested by the ED, Manik Bhattacharya had a shield against arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until October 10. However, there was no such restriction for the ED to take similar steps. The ED exercised that advantage and that too hours after the shield provided by the highest court for Bhattacharya expired.

His arrest sparked a war of words between the ruling TMC and the main opposition BJP over the scam. In response to his arrest, Rajya Sabha member of the Trinamool Congress, Dr. Santanu Sen, that although the party has no comment to offer on the development, they want the central investigative bodies to complete their investigation as soon as possible without dragging it. indefinite period of time to give advantage to a political party.

On the other hand, the BJP welcomed the ED’s move and said that the central authorities are moving in the right direction and that more heavyweights will slowly be netted in the case. CPI(M) Central Committee member Sujan Chakraborty said Manik Bhattacharya’s arrest was inevitable. “He tried to evade arrest by using some techniques, but in the end was unable to avoid it,” he said.
