‘BJP will have to sit in opposition after 2024 elections’: Shashi Tharoor digs up saffron party

New Delhi: Congress presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor on Sunday (October 9), addressing media at the conference, took a look at the saffron party and said the BJP should prepare to join the opposition. “BJP should prepare to join the opposition as they will have to sit there after the 2024 elections,” Tharoor said.

The Congress MP said: “Our party needs change and I feel like I’m the one who will be the catalyst of change.”
“Congress has led the country well, we have experienced people (in the party) … we have to show our strength to win voters again. The party has to be attractive to it, has to be confident so that voters can put their trust in us donate,” Tharoor added, ANI reported.

“He went on to say that he wants to make Congress strong for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. My goal is to make Congress strong for 2024 as our citizens are not satisfied with the Modi government.”

“People want the opposition to be strong, as inflation is high, as well as unemployment and hate speech. In 2014 and 2019 we only got 19 percent of the vote, I want people to come to us who didn’t vote for us. I want people to look at us,” he told ANI.

He went on to say that he and Mallikarjun Kharge are friends and the only difference between the two is the way they work.

To clear up the rumors that Kharge is an official candidate for party leader and he is not, Tharoor said: “Some people say that Kharge is an official candidate and I am nobody. But I want to say that the Gandhi family is open-minded and nobody is an official candidate, because we stand for strengthening the Congress party. If someone says that delegates are asked to vote, it is a certain person, but it is not true.”

Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge compete for the post of President of Congress. The vote for the Congress presidential election is scheduled for October 17, and the padayatra will take a day off to vote.

The last date to withdraw nominations is October 8. The vote will take place on October 17 and the election results will be announced on October 19. With Gandhis not running for the top spot this time around, the big old party is all set to become a non-Gandhi president after more than 25 years.
