Bus carrying ‘Baratis’ falls into gorge in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district, feared for heavy losses


Pauri: Serious casualties were feared when a bus carrying about 45-50 members of a wedding party fell into a gorge in the Bironkhal area of ​​Uttarakhand’s Pauri district on Tuesday night, the disaster control center here said.

The bus was on its way to a village in Bironkhal from Laldhang when it encountered the accident near Simri bend, it said. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Rescue operations have been launched with the help of locals, but rescue workers’ efforts are hampered by the darkness, it said.

There is no lighting at the accident site and villagers struggle to rescue those trapped on the bus using the flashlights on their cell phones, eyewitnesses said, adding that the casualty rate could be high.

Circle Officer Sadar Premlal Tamta, who confirmed the incident, said police have left Dhumakote Police Station and Rikhnikhal Police Station to the spot.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has also reached out to the State Disaster Management Center regarding the bus accident in Pauri Garhwal district.



“State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been mobilized to the scene of the accident. We are doing our best to bring all facilities to the site of the accident. Local villagers are helping with the rescue operation,” said CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.
