BYD Atto 3 electric SUV unveiled in India with 521km range, bookings OPEN

BYD, the Chinese EV maker, has expanded its presence in India with the unveiling of the more accessible BYD Atto 3 electric SUV, which will be launched in the domestic market in the coming days. BYD opened bookings for the Atto 3 in India today (October 11), and the electric SUV will have an ARAI-certified driving range of 521km on a single charge. The carmaker previously entered India with the BYD e6 electric MPV, initially offering the electric MPV to fleet owners and later opening it up to private buyers as well. The BYD Atto 3 is expected to provide stiff competition to its rivals including Tata Nexon EV Max, MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric.

BYD Atto 3 EV: Exterior

The BYD Atto 3 is already being sold in international markets and will be offered unaltered in India. This means that the BYD Atto 3 India-spec EV will have a thick chrome horizontal strip, LED headlights, LED DRLs, vertical air intakes, two-tone alloy wheels, connected LED taillights, among other stylish features, giving it a modern and sleek look. . . Inside, the cabin is given a two-tone gray and blue theme.

BYD Atto 3 EV: Features

In terms of features, the BYD Atto 3, like most Chinese automakers, offers leading gadgets in multiple segments. It will get a rotatable 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, digital instrument console, automatic climate control, electric seats and most likely ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) based technologies such as lane assistant, blind spot monitoring, among others crossing traffic behind.

BYD Atto 3 EV: Range

The BYD Atto 3 gets two battery packs internationally – the standard variant is available with a 50 kWh battery pack and there is a larger 60.5 kWh battery pack, also with a range of up to 521 km on a single charge (ARAI certified). Both models deliver 200 hp and 310 Nm of torque, with a claimed 0-100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds.

The BYD Atto 3 electric SUV competes with SUVs such as Tata Nexon MAX and MG ZS EV in the Rs 20 lakh segment. However, it could undermine several rivals for the entry-level variant.

BYD: History

The Shenzhen-based car and battery maker, with Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway as an investor, entered India in 2007 and produced batteries and components for mobile phone manufacturers from its factory near the southern city of Chennai. In 2013, it started building buses in the country with a local Indian partner and in 2021 it launched its e6 EV for sale to operators and owners of commercial vehicle fleets.
