The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting raids on more than 105 buildings across the country. According to sources, the raids are being conducted in places belonging to the suspects involved in cybercrime. The CBI has named the entire operation “Operation Chakra”.

The agency had received input from the FBI and Interpol about the accused cybercrime. The CBI formed teams and also informed the state police so that they could assist them in the search. The CBI itself conducts the investigation at 87 locations, while the national police are involved in the other places.

“We are conducting raids on four buildings in Andaman, five sites in Delhi, three in Chandigarh, two in Punjab, Karnataka and Assam. Apart from this, our raids are taking place in 105 buildings in 18 states,” the source said.

The source said they recovered about Rs 1.5 crore in cash and 1.5 kg of gold at a location in Rajasthan where the accused were running a fake call center.

Two more call centers were busted in Pune and Ahmedabad. The accused called American and British citizens to defraud them. The CBI has recovered digital devices and incriminating documents at the call centers.

“CBI’s Crime Division, the oldest branch of a wing, is leading this operation. Our Crime Division was created before the IT law was passed,” the source said.
