Congress Presidential Poll: It’s Mallikarjun Kharge vs Shashi Tharoor if KN Tripathi’s nomination is rejected

New Delhi: Madhusudan Mistry, Chairman of the Congress Central Election Authority, has announced that the final competition for the post of Congress President will be between Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor. Former Jharkhand minister KN Tripathi’s nomination for Congress presidential poll was rejected by Mistry on Saturday. The three had submitted nominations on Friday, the last day of the trial. Madhusudan Mistry said during a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Delhi: “A total of 20 forms were received during the nomination process and four were rejected”.

While Kharge submitted 14 forms, Tharoor submitted five and Tripathi submitted one. Mistry said Tripathi’s form was rejected because the signature of one of his submitters did not match and the signature of another petitioner was repeated.

Earlier, Mallikarjun Kharge tendered his resignation from Sonia Gandhi from the post of opposition leader in Rajya Sabha according to the Udaipur resolution of One Leader One Post.

Congress leaders support Mallikarjun Kharge

Kharge has received support from nearly 30 congressional leaders ahead of the party’s presidential election. These names include Deepender Hooda, Salman Khurshid, Ashok Gehlot, Digvijaya Singh, Manish Tewari, Prithviraj Chavan and others.

Tharoor supporters: 2 former Union ministers, 4 MPs, G-23 leader among 60 signatories

On Twitter, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor posted six forms with the signatures of 60 deputies from the Pradesh Congress Committee (10 each on six forms), 10 deputies from Jammu and Kashmir and 10 deputies from Nagaland have supported Tharoor.

Among the prominent leaders who supported Tharoor were former Union ministers Soz, Kidwai, four MPs Karti Chidambaram, Pradyut Bordoloi, MK Raghavan and Mohammad Jawaid and Sandeep Dikshit.
Dikshit and Tharoor were among the group of 23 leaders who sent a letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in 2020 requesting large-scale organizational reforms. Soz’s son Salman Soz was also one of Tharoor’s followers.

Earlier today, Tharoor launched his campaign for the election of the party chairman by visiting the Deekshabhoomi monument in Nagpur where BR Ambedkar embraced Buddhism with his followers on 14 October 1956.

In an interview with ANI today, he said: “If the party leaders and workers are “satisfied” with the “working of the party”, they should vote for Mallikarjun Kharge, who is his opponent in the race for the highest post in the Tharoor. stressed that the battle between him and Kharge is “not a battle” and that it should be left to congressional officials to choose between the duo.

The nominations for the post of President of Congress will close at 3 p.m. Friday and the results will be announced Oct. 19. With the Gandhis not going to the top post this time, the big old party is all set to get a non-Gandhi president. more than 25 years.
