ED rejects DK Shivakumar’s request to postpone the interrogation; Congress says ‘attempt to stop Bharat Jodo Yatra’

Bengaluru: Congress said Thursday it will not be deterred by the subpoena issued by the Enforcement Department of the Karnataka Unit, DK Shivakumar and his brother DK Suresh, claiming that this is being done to bring the Bharat Jodo Yatra to a halt. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) rejected the request of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chairman DK Shivakumar to extend the date of his appearance before the agency. Notably, the ED had previously subpoenaed Shivakumar and his brother and Congresswoman DK Suresh to appear before him on October 7.

Randeep Surjewala, general secretary of the congress in charge of Karnataka affairs, said the ED subpoena was issued because the ruling dispensation is afraid of the support the yatra is getting from the people. Shivakumar said the BJP is afraid of the yatra and is trying to stop it by abusing the central authorities.

On Twitter, Shivakumar lashed out at ED, saying: “In view of Bharat JodoYatra, I have requested the Enforcement Directorate to postpone the subpoena. Their rejection of it is a clear sign of political persecution. They do not want me to participate in the yatra “.

The head of the Karnataka Congress said he will go to Delhi to appear before the investigative agency after it sues him and his brother in the National Herald money laundering case. Shivakumar said he will leave for Delhi on Thursday himself.

“There is madness in the methods of the BJP. They are afraid… They see defeat written on the wall in Karnataka.

“They can subpoena Mr. DK Shivakumar 500 times, Mr. DK Suresh 500 times. They are just trying to block our yatra,” Surjewala told reporters here when asked about the subpoena issued to Shivakumar and his brother.

“We are not afraid. We will give them an appropriate answer in people’s courts,” he said. Surjewala said the Congress “rejects such malicious, vicious attempts by the BJP only because they fear the overwhelming support for the yatra”

On Thursday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi joined the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra party in Karnataka. Sonia Gandhi, 75, accompanied her son Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders for a few miles through the state’s Mandya district to loud cheers and slogans from party officials.
