Eknath Shinde’s Dussehra rally showed what ‘REAL Shiv Sena’ is: Devendra Fadnavis pops up in Uddhav Thackeray

Pune: The “huge” crowd at the Dussehra gathering of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai showed who leads the real Shiv Sena, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here on Thursday. Fadnavis also called the other meeting held Wednesday by Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray “Shimga,” a pejorative term used to describe offensive rhetoric. He himself did not listen to the speeches of both Thackeray and Shinde as they were en route, the BJP leader said.

He was attending the Dhammachara Pravartan Din celebration in Nagpur but understood the gist of the two speeches and later listened to Shinde’s speech on YouTube, Fadnavis said. “I will not comment on Uddhav Thackeray’s speech. There is no need to comment on ‘Shimga’, he told reporters.

The Shimga celebration in parts of Maharashtra prior to the Holi festival involves lighting bonfires, but revelers using swear words or obscene language in a light-hearted way was also once common during the festival. “There was nothing in the speech except Shimga,” Fadnavis said.

“There was a huge gathering at the BKC grounds whose capacity is double that of Shivaji Park (where Thackeray spoke), and the BKC grounds were filled to the brim… Shiv Sainiks proved that Shinde’s Sena is the real Shiv Sena is and that’s why I want to congratulate him,” the BJP leader said.

After the opposition joke that Shinde, who rose up against Thackeray’s leadership in June this year and broke away to form a new government, read the BJP’s “script” at the meeting, Fadnavis said that those who say this should find a new writer.

“How many times will you say the same thing? Ask your writer to use creativity or get a new writer,” he said. Fadnavis, a former prime minister, parried a question about Thackeray’s claim that he was ready to swear on his parents that the BJP had promised the CM’s post to the Shiv Sena for half the term before the 2019 elections. . He had already given his response, Fadnavis said.

The reason for the split in the Shiv Sena was that Thackeray set aside the ideology of Shiv Sena and accepted the ideology of the NCP and Congress and sat next to people “who had connections to the Mumbai bombings and those who abuse freedom fighter VD Savarkar” , he said.

“I should congratulate Shinde as he spoke about development. He spoke about what we are doing and he talked about what we intend to do. This was missing when Uddhav Thackeray was CM. He always spoke like a party leader,” Fadnavis said.
