Elon Musk and Zelensky wage Twitter war over Russia-Ukraine peace plan

Billionaire Elon Musk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have indulged in a Twitter altercation after Musk asked Twitter users to contribute ideas on a plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. In a Twitter poll, Musk proposed UN-supervised elections in four occupied regions that Moscow began annexing last week after what it called “referendums.”

“Ukraine-Russia Peace: Rewrite the elections of annexed regions under UN supervision. Russia will leave if it is the will of the people, Crimea is formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev’s mistake), water supply to Crimea assured, Ukraine remains neutral,” Musk wrote on Twitter with a tweet. “yes or no poll.

“This will most likely be the result in the end – it’s just a matter of how many will die before then,” he added.

The head of Tesla Inc followed with another poll – “Let’s try this: The will of the people living in the Donbas and Crimea must decide whether they are part of Russia or Ukraine.”

To this, Zelensky responded with his own poll. “Which @elonmusk do you like better? – someone who supports Ukraine, someone who supports Russia,” he tweeted.

Musk further replied to Zelensky: “I still strongly support Ukraine, but am convinced that massive escalation of the war will cause great damage to Ukraine and possibly the world.”

In view of this social media war, Musk received a huge backlash. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said: “Dear @elonmusk, when someone tries to steal the wheels from your Tesla, it does not make them the legal owner of the car or the wheels. Even though they claim they both voted for it. Just say it.”

Andriy Melnyk, Ukraine’s outspoken outgoing ambassador to Germany, reacted harshly to Musk’s “peace plan” poll, which said “no Ukrainian will ever buy Tesla.”
