England wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow posts photos of injured leg, banned from T20 World Cup

English wicketkeeper batter Jonny Bairstow suffered a leg injury while playing golf. He was banned from England’s T20 World squad. However, he underwent successful leg surgery and he will be out of action until next year.

Bairstow grabbed his Instagram handle and shared terrifying photos on Tuesday and he said: “Hi everyone. I’m just writing this to give you all an update on my injury and progress. The actual injury was as such…a fractured fibula on 3 places that needed a plate, I dislocated my ankle which in turn meant I did my syndesmosis joint and lateral ligament along with a few more bits All in all I did a good job!

“Anyway…on the plus side, the surgery went well and I’m now 3 weeks post-surgery and my staples have been removed,” he added. “Now it’s all about preventing swelling and getting my ankle moving again. These next weeks/few months are key to recovery.

“As for a timescale on return to play I’m afraid it’s too early to say, the first goals in mind are to get me back on my feet and make sure it’s good. One thing is for sure and that is that I won’t participate in anything in 2022…however, I can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store!! Thank you for your support as always,” he added.

Alex Hales replaced the 33-year-old in England World Cup T20 plow. Bairstow was on prolific form in 2022 when he scored 1,061 runs and is a vital part of the England line-up.
