Five RSS leaders in Kerala, on PFI’s radar, given central security coverage

New Delhi: The center has granted Y-category security coverage to five Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders in Kerala in view of potential threats to them, official sources said on Saturday. The names of RSS leaders are said to have been spotted on the radar of the Popular Front of India (PFI) after central investigative agencies recovered documents related to the recent crackdown on the Islamist organization, which the Center banned early this week.

The smallest category of central security coverage — Y — has been awarded to the five RSS leaders based on input and recommendations provided to the Union’s Department of the Interior by central investigative and intelligence agencies, sources said.

The VIP security wing of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been asked to carry out the task, they said.

About two to three armed commandos will be provided to each secure as part of the cover, the sources said.

The CRPF already covers at least 125 people under its VIP security umbrella.
