Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be 15-20% more expensive in India

New Delhi: Google’s premium smartphone series Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be about 15-21 percent more expensive in India compared to other countries, according to the prices the company has announced. The company has started pre-booking the Pixel 7 for Rs 59,999 (USD 729.36) and Pixel 7 Pro for Rs 84,999 (USD 1033.27) on the e-commerce portal Flipkart. The devices would be available from October 13.

“Powered by Google’s next-generation Tensor G2 processor and shipped with Android 13, the Pixel 7 will cost Rs 59,999 and the Pixel 7 Pro will cost Rs 84,999. Both devices will be available from October 13,” Google said in a statement.

The company has launched the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro for a global price of $599 and $899 respectively. When asked whether the Pixel series sells at a higher price compared to other countries, a Google spokesperson said: “We determine local prices based on a number of factors, including local taxes and customs duties. that the price reflects the value of our premium phones, the high-end hardware specifications and the best-in-class AI-powered software experience.”

Google has not disclosed its mobile phone manufacturing location. Google claims that the Pixel comes with an all-day battery, which is based on a test conducted with a Pixel’s median battery usage profile in a combination of talk, data, standby, and other feature usage. The Pixel 7 series comes with speech recognition technology that allows the phone to transcribe audio messages into Google’s Messages app so that users can read them as soon as they receive them.

According to market research firm IDC, the $500+ premium segment was the fastest growing segment with 83 percent year-over-year growth in India, accounting for 6 percent of the market in the second quarter of 2022. TechArc chief analyst Faisal Kawoosa said that regardless of whether phones are in India be made or not, the brands have to make them for India and that the pricing is an important aspect that will reinforce this.

E-commerce company Flipkart has registered a 70 percent growth in premium mobile phone sales during its eight-day party sale that ended on September 30. Premium mobile phones costing Rs 20,000 and above made up almost 50 percent of total mobile sales and more than 44 percent of premium mobile phone buyers were from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
