New Delhi: Cash, drugs, liquor and freebies worth more than Rs 290 crore have been seized so far in Gujarat, which is more than 10 times the amount seized during the entire 2017 election period in the state. Gujarat will hold elections in two stages on December 1 and 5. According to the Election Commission, planning and monitoring through various enforcement agencies has led to a record number of seizures during the election process in the state. A major “ongoing seizure process of heavy consignments of drugs” is being led by a team of officers from ATS Gujarat conducting an operation in Vadodara (Rural) and Vadodara City. The team has identified two production units for mephedrone drugs and excavated about 143 kg of mephedrone (synthetic drug) worth about Rs 478 crore.

They have detained five persons from Nadiad and Vadodara and a criminal case is being registered in ATS Police Station, Ahmedabad under relevant sections of NDPS Act, 1985. “The operation is ongoing and full details will be made available once the operation is complete,” the polling panel said.
