Ind vs SA, 3rd T20I: Proteas defeats India by 49 runs to avoid whitewashing. Hosts win series 2-1

New Delhi: Rilee Rossouw’s unbeaten barrel and Dwaine Pretorius’ three-wicket haul helped South Africa to a 49-run victory over India here at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. However, India won the three-match T20I series 2-1.

In the absence of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, chasing a massive target of 228 runs, India got off to the worst possible start by losing their skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck to Kagiso Rabada. In the next over, Wayne Parnell got the wicket from Shreyas Iyer leg for wicket for 1 to stagger India at 4/2.

Opener Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik then struck a partnership of 41 runs. Their partnership was broken when Lungi knocked Ngidi Pant off for 27 from 14 balls while India lost their third wicket for 45.

In-form Suryakumar Yadav and Karthik then took India’s total above 50 run in 5.2 overs. Karthik kept hitting boundaries and sixes, but the partnership didn’t last too long. The wicketkeeper’s batter was bowled clean for 46 off 21 balls by Keshav Maharaj.

In the next over, Suryakumar was sent off by Dwaine Pretorius for 8, with India losing half their side for 86. Axar Patel and Harshal Patel took India’s total above the three-digit mark in 10.1 overs. But the partnership was broken when Harshal was fired by Ngidi.

Also Axar was sent off by Parnell in the next over, caught behind by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock for 9. Four balls later Ravichandran Ashwin was sent off for 2. Just as India looked down and looked out, Deepak Chahar and Umesh Yadav showed some struggle and hit some lecherous blows to take the team total past the 150 run in 16.3 overs.

The 48-run partnership was broken when Pretorius sacked Chahar for 31 from 17 balls. The pacesetter struck for a third time when he took the tenth and final wicket from Mohammad Siraj in the 19th over 5, knocking India out for 178. The Proteas recorded a comprehensive 49-run victory over the hosts, while the T20I took three matches series ended 2-1 in favor of India.

Earlier in the day South Africa got off to a steady start as Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma looked solid. However, India soon got the first breakthrough. Umesh Yadav sent off Proteas skipper Bavuma for 3 out of 8 balls with a score of 30 for the visitors.

Quinton de Kock was then joined by Rilee Rossouw and the duo struck a partnership to take the team total above 50 run in 6.2 overs. The de Kock-Rossouw duo switched to take the team’s overall three-digit figure in just 10.1 overs, and in the process the wicketkeeper’s batter cut his half-century on 33 balls.

The 90-run partnership was broken when Shreyas Iyer defeated Quinton de Kock for 68 from 43 balls. Despite losing his partner, Rossouw scored his fiftieth off just 27 balls to take his team’s total above 150 runs in 14.4 overs.

Tristan Stubbs then joined 32-year-old Rossouw and the duo scored fifty runs in 26 balls. The visitors passed the 200-run mark in just 18.4 overs. Rossouw-Stubbs went on to score 87 runs for the third wicket. Deepak Chahar broke off the partnership and sacked Stubbs for 23. Southpaw Rossouw scored his first T20I ton with just 48 balls. David Miller walked in to bat and scored 19 from 5 balls to bring Proteas’ total to a massive 227/3 in 20 overs.
