India an ‘expert in IT’ while Pakistan is an ‘expert in international terrorism’: Jaishankar

New Delhi: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar attacked Pakistan on Saturday (October 1, 2022) saying that no other country is “practising terrorism” like India’s neighbor does. Speaking about the “Rising India and the World: Foreign Policy in Modi Era” in Gujarat’s Vadodra, he said while India is considered an “expert in IT” (information technology), the neighboring country is known as an “expert in international terrorism”. The minister added that the diplomacy of the Narendra Modi government has made other countries take the issue of terrorism seriously.

“No other country practices terrorism the way Pakistan has. You show me anywhere in the world what Pakistan has done to India for so many years. After the Mumbai attack on 26/11, it is important for us to be clear to be ourselves that this kind of behavior and action is unacceptable and there will be consequences,” Jaishankar said while interacting with the audience after the lecture.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has successfully made other countries realize that terrorism could also harm them in the future if not contained now, he added.

“We are quite successful in taking the world into this fight against terrorism. Previously, other countries ignored this issue assuming it would not affect them because it happened elsewhere. Today there is a pressure on those who support terrorism. This is an example of our diplomacy,” said Jaishankar.

He also stated that terrorist activities in the Northeast have declined because of India’s strategic pact with Bangladesh.

“Thanks to the agreement on the land border with Bangladesh, militants were unable to find shelter there. This prevented them from carrying out their operations in the northeast,” he said.

When asked by a student from Sierra Leone about how Modi Sardar Vallabhbhai’s government will realize Patel’s dream of “undivided India”, Jaishankar said Partition was a real tragedy and caused problems such as terrorism.

“The best way to realize Sardar Patel’s dream is for India to be strong, successful and confident, and for other people to understand that they need to come to terms with this India and end policies that are not in their best interest. and that is harmful to the entire region,” said the minister.

“…And I think if there is one leader who realizes the dreams, who has Sardar Patel’s thought process, who realizes Sardar Patel’s vision, who has audacity, dedication and habits, you know who that is”, he said, apparently referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
