India vs South Africa: Delhi Traffic Police advise, ask commuters to avoid THESE roads

The national capital is all set to host the India v South Africa game today (October 11) and fans are gearing up to support Team India. To make commuting easier, Delhi traffic police have made extensive arrangements in view of the ODI match between India and South Africa at Arun Jaitley Stadium. According to the advice, there will be a diversion of traffic half an hour before and after the game. Heavy vehicles and buses are not allowed on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Delhi Gate to JLN Marg, Daryaganj to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali road.

People are requested to avoid Raj Ghat to JLN Marg, JLN Marg from Kamla Market roundabout to Raj Ghat, Asaf Ali Road from Turkman Gate to Delhi Gate, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg from Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk to Delhi Gate from 11:30 am to 11 pm hours on race day,” the consultancy said. The spectators would come to the stadium and congestion is expected, it said.

“No vehicle is allowed to be parked on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg and Ring Road from Rajghat to IP overpass (both lanes) on match day,” it said. Vehicles parked on these roads will be towed and prosecuted under the law, traffic officials said.

For spectators, the unlabeled “park and ride” facility will be available at Mata Sundari Parking, Shanti Van Parking and Under Velodrome Road. All spectators entering their vehicles must reach these park and ride locations and use the “Park and Ride” facility or walk down to reach the stadium.

“There is limited parking for tagged vehicles near the stadium. Displaying parking tags on the windshield is mandatory. The vehicle number must be written on the parking tag. Anyone who does not show a parking tag with vehicle number will not be allowed in the vicinity of the stadium,” said the consultancy.

Parking tag holders are advised to take Ring Road, JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road or Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. “U” turns at Delhi Gate are allowed, it says.

All buses will start their services two hours before the game and continue until an hour after the game starts, the traffic police said. Spectators using app-based taxis and other taxis should use the service lane on Ring Road between IP flyover and Rajghat crossing for drop and pick-up, she added.
