‘Is it a crime to take action against corrupt’: BJP criticizes JDU chief for calling Prime Minister Modi ‘dhongi’

New DelhiUnion Home Secretary Nityanand Rai spoke against President Janata Dal (United States) Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Saturday for inciting the caste of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his accusation of “ambiguity” was an insult to the 12 crore people of Bihar. Rai also targeted Rajiv Ranjan Singh, better known as Lalan Singh, for the IT raids against his assistant and asked whether it is a crime to take action against the corrupt.

“Is it a crime to take action against the corrupt? Is it a crime to put corrupt people behind bars? If this is a crime, then the punishment for that crime is acceptable for 130 crore people of the country. The people from Bihar will reply you soon,” Rai told ANI.

He referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s humble origins and said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will have to answer for Lalan Singh’s comments.

“The person who works for the country day and night, constantly struggling to eradicate poverty from the country and calling him ‘double’ is an insult to the 12 crore population of Bihar. Nitish Kumar Ji will have to answer to the people of Bihar,” Rai said.

Lalan Singh’s comments came after the Income Tax Department (IT) raided multiple sites in Patna on Friday. The IT department raided the Shivpuri, Patel Nagar and Boring Road buildings of builder Gabbu Singh, a close associate of the JD(U) leader, among others. Lalan Singh made the allegations while addressing JD(U) party members in Patna.

“In 2014, Narendra Modi roamed the country and said he was from the Extremely Backward Class (EBC). There is no EBC in Gujarat, only OBC. When Modi became Gujarat Chief Minister, he added his caste to OBC. He is a duplicate, not an original.”

Lalan Singh said BJP is a “messy place” and said those who left BJP and joined JD(U) did a good job. The leader of JD(U) had also attacked the central government over unemployment and inflation.

“Inflation is never talked about, but about cheetahs. Will the cheetah go hungry? Jobs have been destroyed. The central government has no control over inflation,” he claimed. Nitish Kumar had cut ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in August this year and has rejoined the RJD to form a “Mahagathbandhan” government in the state.
