Jamal Musiala shines as Bayern Munich crush Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 to take scoreless point

Jamal Musiala scored once and added two more as champions Bayern Munich swept 4-0 past Bayer Leverkusen on Friday to take a four-game scoreless point in the Bundesliga and climb into second place.

The Germany international put in an outstanding performance for a confidence-inspiring victory ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League group stage match against Viktoria Plzen and the big Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund next weekend.

“I think it’s too early. We need to play more matches like this, so we can’t just say we’re back now,” Musiala said.

“Everyone in the team wanted to win today. There was pressure on all of us. We all want to be number one and we showed that today. There is always pressure at Bayern.”

In a frenzied start, Musiala set up Leroy Sané for their first goal in the third minute to calm nerves at the Allianz Arena as the Bavarians tried desperately to bounce back after their recent dip in form and their longest run without a win in 20 years .

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder terrorized the Leverkusen defense throughout the game, becoming the goalscorer in the 17th minute after a one-two with Thomas Mueller and a slightly deflected shot.

He then helped Sadio Mane end his five-game drought by picking out the Senegalese in the penalty area who sent another deflected attempt past goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky for his first home goal. Musiala has now scored five times in the league and scored three goals.

The icing on Bayern’s cake came in the 84th minute when Hradecky slid into the penalty area and sent the ball straight into Mueller’s path for their fourth goal.

The victory puts Bayern in second place in the Bundesliga at 15 points, two behind leaders Union Berlin, which travels to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Fellow Champions League club Bayer Leverkusen, who travels to Porto on Tuesday, sank deeper into trouble, dropping to 16th in the league. Coach Gerardo Seoane’s team have won just one of their eight Bundesliga games so far after finishing in third place last season.
