Lakshya Sen defeats Prannoy to advance to quarterfinals in Denmark Open

Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lakshya Sen defeated his elderly compatriot HS Prannoy in straight games to advance to the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open Super 750 men’s singles tournament here.

Sen, a bronze medalist of the 2021 World Championships, defeated world number 13 Prannoy 21-9 21-18 in a 39-minute clash to set up a final eight-clash with Japan’s Kodai Naraoka.

The two entered the game with a 2-2 head-to-head count in four encounters, but the younger Sen proved to be the better player on the day as he got off to a rambunctious start to put Prannoy on the back foot on Thursday. .

World No. 8 Sen zoomed out to a 5-1 lead early on before boosting it to 11-3 during the break. He continued to advance as Prannoy’s game crumbled.

In the second game, Prannoy gave a better picture of himself as he continued to breathe into his opponent’s neck with slender leads of 5-4 and 11-10. It remained the same after the break, but Sen broke off at 17-17 to close the door for Prannoy.
