Lionel Messi says 2022 World Cup in Qatar will ‘definitely’ be his last: report

New Delhi: Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has announced that the upcoming World Cup in Qatar will be his last, AFP news agency reported. This will be the fifth FIFA World Cup for the 35-year-old player. Messi made this known during an interview with Sebastian Vignolo, telling him that this will be his last World Cup.

“If it’s my last World Cup? Yes, definitely yes, definitely yes. I feel good physically, I can have a really good pre-season this year that I didn’t do the year before because of how everything went, training late, playing without rhythm, with the tournament already started, and then I went to the national team, “When I came back, I had an injury and I never finished starting,” he told Star+.

And he added: “I’m counting down the days before the World Cup, the truth is there’s a little bit of fear of wanting it already and the nerves of saying well, we’re here, what’s going to happen, it is the last one, how are you going and yes, on the one hand we can’t wait for it to arrive and on the other hand the shit to want us to do it right.”

“I don’t know if we are the big candidates, but Argentina itself is always a candidate because of the history, because of what it means, especially now that we arrive, but we are not the favourites. I think there are other selections that are above” he explained.

Messi has played a total of four World Cups for Argentina so far. He made his national team debut in 2005, scoring 90 goals in 164 caps. He made his debut for the Argentina senior team in 2005, scoring 90 goals in 164 games.
