MCG Pitch Curator Explains Pitch Conditions Prior to IND-PAK T20 World Cup Match


India vs Pakistan pitch report: The iconic Melbourne cricket ground is all set to host Asian cricket giants India and Pakistan for their highly anticipated 2022 T20 World Cup clash on Sunday. While fans wait for the blockbuster clash, there’s a chance the match will be canceled or cut short due to rain. The India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match kicks off at 1:30 PM IST. Before the match, MCG’s pitch curator Michael Salvatore gave his thoughts on how the pitch will look during the match.

“T20 wickets are usually very consistent for the whole match. So it should make for a really good game. We brought it from our wicket farm which is just off the ground. It’s literally 200 yards off the ground so we can move and monitor and maintain the wickets all year round. And the wickets were installed three weeks ago,” Salvatore told Hindustan Times on A Sports.

“So we have drop in wickets here at the MCG. So for the cricket season we bring the wickets in and I sit on some sand and bed in nice. And once the cricket is over we have the football stadium. We have the opportunity to take them out and hang them up during our special week anniversary, where we can care for and maintain them,” he said.

India vs Pakistan rain update: “Cloudy. High (70%) chance of showers, most likely in the late afternoon and evening. Chance of a thunderstorm in the northeastern suburbs in the late afternoon and evening. Winds from the south 15 to 25 km/h and tending southeast 20 to 30 km/h in the evening,” according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
