Mentally Handicapped Woman Held Prisoner For 35 Years, Rescued By Hathras MLA – Inside Details


Firozabad: A 53-year-old woman with an intellectual disability who had been locked up in her home for the past 35 years was rescued at the initiative of Hathras MLA, officials here said Sunday.

Sapna, a resident of Mohammadabad village in the Tundla area, has been held in a room by her father since she was 18, MLA Hathras Anjula Mahaur said.

She was tied up and fed in her relatives’ room, Mahaur said.

The MLA said she came across the woman about a month ago through a Nirmala Singh of the Matra Seva Bharti organization.

“I spoke to the woman’s brothers on Friday and convinced them and admitted her to a psychiatric hospital in Agra,” the MLA said, adding that she is being treated there.
