New Delhi: During Sharad Navratri, devotees worship the nine incarnations of goddess Durga for nine days with great devotion, splendor and pomp. It is believed that Durga Maa killed the demon king Mahishasura on the ninth day and is therefore called ‘Mahishasura Mardini’. This year Maha Navami falls on Tuesday, October 4. The Bengali festival of Navami marks the end of the Durga Puja celebrations. On this day, the goddess Durga is believed to have killed the demon Mahishasura.

Devotees of Maa Durga worship her ninth form, Maa Siddhidatri, on this sacred occasion. All siddhis come from the goddess Siddhidatri, who also possesses all eight Ashtasiddhis. The Sahasrara Chakra, also known as the Crown Chakra, of the body is stimulated by worshiping Maa Siddhidatri. She bestows wealth and salvation on her worshippers, according to Hindu texts.

It is believed that she bestows wisdom on her worshipers in exchange for their ignorance. She also gives them all kinds of siddhis, and even Lord Shiva received all the siddhis by the blessing of the goddess Siddhidatri.

Maa Siddhidatri rides a lion sitting on a lotus. She has four arms, with the Sudarshan chakra and a club in her right hand and a lotus and a shankh in her left.

One of the most important days during Durga Puja is Mahanavami. Mahasnan and Shodashoparchar Puja are the first two puja rituals while Kanyapujan is the latter. Young girls are welcomed into people’s homes to be fed and worshipped. They also seek their blessings and give them gifts. Among other things, Devi Maa gets red chunari, bracelets and all cosmetic items like Mehendi cone, vermilion (sindoor) etc.

The Important Rules of Kanya/ Kanjak Puja vidhi during Navami remains the same as Ashtami i.e. by welcoming Kanjak to your home to seek their blessings. On this day, worshipers offer Goddess Siddhidatri with coconut, kheer and panchamrit as bhog. Devotees offer armi, halwa and black chickpeas to the goddess during Kanya Puja.

Ensuring a smooth departure for Maa Durga so that she returns soon and showers us with her many blessings.

Wishing everyone Happy Navratri and Durga Pujo!
