Novak Djokovic gave huge boost to Australian Open return in 2023 as Serb awaits ban sentence

Just a few days later Novak Djokovic Resuming his regular campaign on ATP tour after missing the US Open tuning events and the last Grand Slam of the year, the former world No. 1 has received a huge boost from his return to the Australian Open in 2023. Melbourne Park time champion was expelled from the country earlier this year before the start of the Australian Open tournament and given a three-year ban from returning to the country.

Djokovic’s wait for official confirmation on his return to Australia for the Grand Slam continues with just two months left for the 2023 season to kick off. The Serb was given the chance to defend his crown in Melbourne earlier this year because of his choice not to be vaccinated against Covid-19 and was therefore banned from entering the country before being deported and given a visa ban. However, Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley has positive news for Djokovic about the possibility of him returning to the tournament next year.

“We are on track to have all the top players back,” he said at a Melbourne Victory lunch on Wednesday. We’re at a different point in time now than we were nine months ago and I think it’s a very different environment with people traveling freely around the world and we hope to have the best players here in January.”

The 21-time Grand Slam winner had already raised the issue at the Laver Cup event in London last month. ‘I’m waiting for the news. It’s really not in my hands right now. I hope I can get some positive news soon,” said Djokovic.

Djokovic had also missed the US Open for the same reason, but is now back on tour where he won the ATP 250 event in Tel Aviv and is now part of the Astana Open.
