Pakistan’s only female DJ Neha Khan claims she received rape and death threats after performing at music festival

New Delhi: Pakistan’s only female DJ Neha Khan recently opened up about rape and death threats after performing at the Hunza Music festival. In an interview with Momina Sibtain’s YouTube channel, Momina’s Mixed Plate, Neha broke her silence about the harrowing experience.

She shared how she performed at the music festival with 5 other male artists in June of last year, but later Neha was subjected to unpleasant and hateful posts on social media. So much so that she couldn’t travel because people were there at the airport to destroy her.

Neha Khan said it is not easy being a DJ in Pakistan as it is still a taboo in the country. Neha and her team were also reportedly accused of sabotage of the local culture.

Recently, Pakistani singer Abdullah Qureshi retired from music due to religious beliefs. He grabbed his social media handle and wrote: “Hello everyone, I know I’ve been lost for a long time and I’ve received a lot of messages in this time asking where I’ve been. I had a break, pressed the pause button for a while and this time took to find out who I was, where I’m going and who I want to be.”

“I would like to take a moment to announce my departure from the music industry as I have decided to retire from music as a full-time profession. I made this decision purely for religious reasons.”

Reports quickly flooded the social media. Popular Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi wished him on his trip, but also claimed that “music is not completely haraam in Islam.”
