Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra said on Monday that people of any faith can worship goddess Durga and no one should hide their identity when entering pandals where ‘garba’ performances are also staged during Navratri. “As for pandals, especially the organizers of garba were instructed to check people’s IDs before entering the pandals. Traditional garba dance events are organized during the nine-day Navratri festival.

Five people were arrested on Sunday after a clash between two groups amid a garba dispute in the village of Kankar in the state’s Agar Malwa district. A video surfaced on social media of the incident in which men and women attack each other with sticks.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Naval Singh Sisodia said on Sunday the clash started after a dispute between two groups over calling female garba dancers from outside.

“A person identified as Toofan Singh Sondhia objected to the presence of outside women, after which another group attacked him and others. Four people were hospitalized with injuries. A case has been registered based on a complaint by Sondhia,” he said.
