PM Narendra Modi Says Gujarat Will Get An Aircraft Factory Soon

Gujarat may soon have its first aircraft factory. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence on Wednesday that aircraft will soon be manufactured in Gujarat and spare parts will be manufactured in state’s Rajkot. He spoke to a crowd in Rajkot’s Race Course area after launching a number of projects, including housing for economically disadvantaged people. Modi is in Gujarat for two days, where parliamentary elections are scheduled for late December.

Modi praised the engineering industry in the Rajkot district during his speech, saying: “Aircraft will soon be manufactured in Gujarat and their spare parts will be made in Rajkot.” Some leaders built bungalows for themselves after entering politics, but did nothing for the poor, he said without naming anyone.

The claim can be supported by the fact that the Defense Secretary signed a pact with Airbus in 2021 to get 56 C-295 medium transport aircraft into India. Under this partnership, 40 aircraft would be produced in India in a joint partnership with the Tata Consortium. At the time, it was envisaged that after the delivery of the promised aircraft, the next produced aircraft would be exported to Defense Department approved countries.

“They entered politics and built their bungalows, but never thought of improving the living conditions of the people in slums. I started building houses for the poor,” he said.

On the occasion, he handed over the ownership of nearly 1,100 houses built under the ‘Light House’ project to the beneficiaries. Prior to the rally, the Prime Minister also led a roadshow from the airport to the racecourse grounds.
