Roger Binny Frontrunner Replaces Sourav Ganguly as Next BCCI President – Report


New Delhi: Sourav Ganguly, the former Team India captain and current chairman of India’s Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI), could step down from his position in the coming weeks, ANI reported. According to various reports circulating, BCCI secretary Jay Shah is not in the running to become the next BCCI president but will most likely be competing again for the same position which is the BCCI secretary with someone else taking over the top position. Meanwhile, Roger Binny, winner of the 1983 World Cup, would lead the way to replace Ganguly as BCCI president in the upcoming election.

Reportedly, a meeting was held in Mumbai between the top executives at the next BCCI elections. Another meeting will be held next week in New Delhi where state associations will share their views.

The BCCI presidential election will take place in Mumbai on October 18, after which candidates will submit their nominations on October 11 and 12, followed by examination of the nomination documents on October 13. Nominations can be withdrawn until 14th and after that if there are more than two applicants, voting will take place on October 18th.

Who is Roger Binny?

Roger Binny was part of the Kapil Dev led Indian cricket team that won the World Cup title in 1983. Roger emerged as the star player for his team in the semi-finals. Team India had given Australia a 247-run goal, which they were unable to chase, courtesy of a brilliant bowling spell from Binny (4 wickets for 29 runs in 8 overs). Binny also coached India’s Under-19 team, including stars like Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh, who became world champions for the first time.
