Russian fighter plane crashes into residential area in Yeysk port, probe ordered

A Russian fighter jet crashed into a residential area in the port of Yeysk on the Sea of ​​Azov on Monday after an engine failure on Monday, the army said.

It said both crew members got out of the boat safely, but the plane crashed into a residential area, starting a fire when tons of fuel exploded on impact.

Regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev said emergency services were working to extinguish the blaze.

Local authorities said the massive fire engulfed several floors of an apartment building and affected at least 15 apartments. They had no direct information on victims.

Russia launched a criminal investigation into the plane crash in Yeysk. “Military investigators are determining the circumstances and causes of the incident,” it said.
