Tax Check Expiration Expiration For AY2022-23 Latest Update: CBDT Extends Last Day To October 7 After Income Tax Portal Issues

It took taxpayers thousands of tweets and countless complaints with screenshots on Twitter to get a seven-day grace period for filing their tax returns. Twitter was flooded with complaints reporting technical errors and people demanding an extension of the expiration date which resulted in the trending hashtag #Extend_Due_Date_Immediately. The IRS eventually bowed to the question and extended the due date for filing tax audit reports for fiscal 2021-22 by 7 days to Oct. 7 in a late notice.

“Considering the difficulties faced by taxpayers and other stakeholders in submitting various audit reports electronically under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961 (Act), the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in exercising of its powers under Section 119 of the Act, extends the due date of the submission of the audit report under any provision of the Act for the preceding year 2021-22, which was September 30, 2022 in the case of assessors referred to in clause (A) of the Explanatory Memorandum 2 to paragraph (1) of Section 139 of the Act, until October 7, 2022,” the CBDT said in a statement.

In a tweet, the income tax department said: “CBDT extends the due date for filing various audit reports for assessment year 2022-23 from September 30, 2022 to October 7, 2022 for certain categories of assessors.”
