Thailand mass shooting: ex-police officer who shot 34, commits suicide, his wife and child

New Delhi: A former police officer who killed 34 people, including 22 children, in a mass shooting at a daycare center in Thailand on Thursday (October 6, 2022), also killed his wife and child before shooting himself. He was fired from the service for drug-related reasons, police said.

About 30 children were at the center, located in the town of Uthai Sawan in northeastern Nong Bua Lamphu province, when the gunman arrived around lunchtime.

District official Jidapa Boonsom told Reuters news agency that the man first shot four or five staff members, including a teacher who was eight months pregnant.

According to the latest media reports, he also used knives in the attack.

After fleeing the scene of the attack, he reportedly returned to his home and committed suicide along with his wife and child.

Earlier in 2020, a soldier angry over a failed property deal had killed 29 people and injured 57 in a disaster that spanned four sites.
