Tharoor vs Kharge: Ashok Gehlot thinks THIS candidate should be Congress Prez

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Sunday that veteran party leader Mallikarjun Kharge has the experience to bolster the congress and would emerge as a clear winner in the party presidential poll, while his race rival Shashi Tharoor is in the “elite class” .

“Kharge has a long political experience. He has a clean heart, he comes from the Dalit community and (Kharge is running in the elections) is welcomed everywhere,” he told reporters after paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the secretariat. Gehlot, one of the submitters of Kharge, said that Tharoor is also a good man and has good thoughts, but he comes from the elite class.

“Tharoor is in a class of his own; he comes from the elite class, but the kind of experience needed to strengthen the party at the state, bloc and district levels is with Kharge and not like Shashi Tharoor,” he said.

“That’s why it will of course be a one-sided game for Kharge,” he said.

Kharge and Tharoor are in a direct battle for the congressional president post. Kharge, a Dalit leader from Karnataka, has clearly become the favorite for the post of President of Congress. Kharge has resigned as leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, sources said on Saturday.

Kharge’s resignation, which the 80-year-old leader sent to Congress Speaker Sonia Gandhi on Friday night, is in line with the party-proclaimed ‘One person, One post’ principle announced in May in Udaipur’s ‘Chintan Shivir’.

The election will take place, if necessary, on October 17. The votes will be counted on October 19 and the results will be announced the same day. More than 9,000 delegates from the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) will vote in the election.
