The body of Mulayam Singh Yadav arrives at the Saifai indigenous village on Tuesday afternoon, cremation


New Delhi: The body of the patron saint of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Mulayam Singh Yadav, who died at a Gurugram Medanta hospital on Monday (October 10, 2022) arrived at his home village of Saifai in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh in the evening. In addition to a large number of people waiting for the remains at the site, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, former MP Dharmendra Yadav and other family members were present as the body was removed from an ambulance. Mulayam’s brother Shivpal Yadav was also present. After the body was laid for the last “darshans”, Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, arrived and paid his respects.

It has been preserved at Saifai Mela Festival for ‘darshan’ and the cremation will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, traders in the Etawah district have decided to keep the markets closed on Oct. 11 as a sign of respect for their leader.

Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away Monday morning at the age of 82

Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was admitted to a hospital in August and transferred to the Medanta Hospital Intensive Care Unit on October 2, died Monday morning at the age of 82.

Born on November 22, 1939 into a farming family in Saifai, Yadav spawned the state’s most prominent political clan. Also known as “Netaji”, Yadav served as Defense Minister from 1996 to 1998, and Uttar Pradeh’s chief minister three times in 1989-91, 1993-95 and 2003-07.

The SP supremo was elected to MLA ten times and MP seven times, mostly from Mainpuri and Azamgarh.

Yogi Adityanath has announced a three-day state mourning as a mark of respect for Mulayam Singh Yadav.

“The government of Uttar Pradesh announces three-day state mourning for the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav. His final rituals will be performed with full state honour,” Adityanath said.
