‘There is huge anger in Gujarat’s Patel community’: Arvind Kejriwal after Gopal detained Italia

New Delhi: Delhi police arrested Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat chief Gopal Italia of the National Commission for Women’s (NCW) office on Thursday over a video in which he used derogatory language towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Italia was summoned by the NCW after a video in which he used derogatory language to Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral on social media. The viral video shows Italia berating Prime Minister Modi and making casteistic comments about him. Meanwhile, AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has condemned Italy’s detention.

Commenting on the death of Gopal Italia, AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: “With the arrest of Gopal Italia, there is tremendous anger in the Patel community of all of Gujarat.”

Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia also criticized the BJP, saying that Mr Italia was being detained for being a member of a party that knows how to build schools. “They don’t know how to educate people and improve schools,” said the senior AAP leader.

Before his arrest, the AAP leader in a tweet accused NCW chief Rekha Sharma of threatening him to put me in jail.

He said: “The chief threatens to put me in jail. What can the Modi government give to the Patel community except prison. BJP hates Patidar society. I am a descendant of Sardar Patel. Not afraid of your prisons. Put me in jail He also called the police. I’m threatening.”

Earlier, Sambit Patra, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had criticized Italia for his remark. “Calling the prime minister a humble person is against the democratic rules of the country; it is an insult to the country. Whether it is caste or religion, “No one can be humble,” Patra said at a news conference.

“An OBC Prime Minister who comes from a backward class, who comes from a poor and ordinary family and repeatedly humbles him, what kind of abuse is this? Does the Aam Aadmi party want to call the people of the backward class low? Anyone who stands up from an ordinary poor family and becoming prime minister is not low in the democratic process. No, it is against democratic values,” he added.

“The Aam Aadmi party and Arvind Kejriwal are the people who said they have come to change the character of India. If the democratically elected influential and hardworking prime minister is called humble, and he humbly calls the prime minister in that video, not one times , but somehow it shows the mentality of the Aam Aadmi party,” he said.
