Threats To Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde From Unknown Caller, Security Tightened


Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s security coverage was tightened after specific input pointing to threats to his life by a mysterious phone call on Sunday. The Interior Ministry, handled by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has also ordered a probe with attempts to trace the call and the unknown caller.

At the same time, the security of Shinde’s official residence ‘Varsha’, on Malabar Hill and his private residence in the city of Thane, was reinforced with additional troops.

Officials said the State Intelligence Department (SID) has checked input on the threats to Shinde, which has Z-category security coverage.

Previously, Shinde – who leads the rebellious Shiv Sena faction that the . overthrown Maha Vikas Aghadic government in June – had previously been the target of similar threats from Maoists and anti-national elements when he was a minister in the previous government.

While officials are lashing out, speculation is being made that the latest threats may be related to the Center’s decision to ban the PFI.

Shinde currently travels a lot for the Navratri Festivities and will address a Dassehra rally at the Bandra Kurla Complex site on Vijaya Dashami.

BJP leaders such as Pravin Darekar and Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar suspect that certain individuals may be upset by the CM’s harsh decisions in recent times and demanded a full investigation into the matter, including political or international discussions.
