Ukraine’s ambassador’s blunt response to Elon Musk’s Russia-Ukraine peace plan: ‘My very diplomatic response to you is…’

New Delhi: Billionaire Elon Musk sparked controversy on Monday (October 3, 2022) after asking Twitter users to contribute ideas on a plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. The richest person in the world started a poll and put forward some ideas for resolving the ongoing conflict, asking his followers to vote “yes” or “no” to his proposals. Among his proposals included UN-controlled elections in four occupied regions that Moscow decided to annex last week after what it called referenda. The Tesla chief also suggested that Crimea, which Moscow seized in 2014, would be formally recognized as Russia, that the water supply to Crimea would be assured and that Ukraine would remain neutral.

Musk then followed up on his first tweet with a new poll: “Then let’s try this: The will of the people living in the Donbas and Crimea must decide whether they are part of Russia or Ukraine.”

He said he didn’t care if his proposal was unpopular, arguing that he cared “that millions of people would needlessly die for an essentially identical outcome.”

“Russia has >3 times the population of Ukraine, so victory for Ukraine is unlikely in an all-out war. If you care about the people of Ukraine, seek peace,” Musk said on Twitter.

However, he received immediate condemnation from Ukrainians, including President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who responded with his own poll.

“Which Elon Musk do you like better?” Zelenskiy tweeted with two replies: “one who supports Ukraine, one who supports Russia”.

The sharpest response came from Ukraine’s outspoken outgoing ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk,

“F*ck off is my very diplomatic response to you Elon Musk,” Melnyk tweeted.

“The only result is that no Ukrainian will NEVER buy your f…ing Tesla junk. So good luck to you,” he added in another tweet.
