Uttar Pradesh: 25 dead as rain wreaks havoc, majority killed in house collapse – Read here


Uttar Pradesh: As of late Sunday night, at least 25 people have died in separate rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh. Most deaths have been reported in house collapse cases. Water levels are rising in all major rivers in the state after continuous rain for the past 48 hours. The State Met Department on Monday warned of moderate to heavy rainfall in the eastern, central parts of the state, Bundelkhand, Terai Belt and Rohilkhand.

District magistrates in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Rampur and Meerut have decided to close all schools until grade 12 on Monday, while the administrations of Agra and Aligarh have declared school holidays on Monday and Tuesday.

Nearly 400 villages in Balrampur district have been flooded and two people have been wiped out after a boat capsized in Barhalganj in Gorakhpur.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has asked people to remain vigilant and advised people to avoid crowded places and dilapidated buildings. Several districts have opened helplines for people dealing with rain-related issues.
