‘Watched helplessly as daughters…’ Mother’s SHOCKING confession in Shivamurthy Murugha rape case

More shocking and heartbreaking details of sexual assault victims emerge in connection with the Karnataka Lingayat Mutt sex scandal. The mother of the two underage girls, who have come forward to press charges against the arrested seer accused of rape, has told police she watched helplessly as her daughters were taken to the seer’s private room. A mutt staffer, the woman said, although she knew both her daughters who were studying and who lived in the hostel of the Chitradurga Muruga Mutt were being violated, she kept quiet for fear of the seer’s influence.

The new FIR has been filed against seven individuals, including the arrested Dr. Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru. The seer is the main accused and hostel guard Rashmi is named as suspect number two. Junior Pope Basavaditya, Paramashivaiah, Mahalinga, Gangadharaiah and Karibasappa are also mentioned in the FIR. Two new names have also emerged in this FIR.

One of her daughters, the woman said, was sexually exploited by the accused seer until she reached puberty. She had admitted her daughters to SJM Kannada high school in 2016 in third and first standards. They stayed in the mutt’s residential facility.

Sharanaru would exploit her daughters in his private room. During Covid holidays between 2019 and 2020, the accused seer repeatedly violated the girls.

She told police that the accused seer also sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in grade 10 and a 14-year-old girl in grade 9. Many more children who stayed in the hostel had become victims.

According to the woman, Rashmi, the hostel director of the girl who is currently in prison, would send girls forcibly to the accused seer. If the children refused, the other accused would threaten and coerce them.

Mahalinga took the children to the seer’s private room and would stand guard to make sure no one knows what’s happening, police said.

The mother has stated in the complaint that she was in a deep financial crisis after her husband left her. She was with her parents who earn their livelihood by selling fruit.

The two girls, aged 12 and 14, had approached the CWC in Mysuru with their mother on Thursday and lodged their complaint. The arrested seer is currently in judicial custody until October 21.

They were staying at the Akkamahadevi hostel of the mutt Chitradurga and had approached the Odanadi NGO in the city of Mysuru and later the case was brought before the CWC.

Odanaadi NGO from Mysuru played an important role in filing a case against the accused seer by the two victims of abuse earlier.

A local court had rejected the accused’s bail request five times and had also denied him any special treatment in prison.

The arrested Lingayat seer is accused of sexually exploiting the underage girls who have been studying in the mutt’s hostels for more than twenty years. The new case was to be transferred to Chitradurga Police Station on Friday.
