‘We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon,’ says Joe Biden; warns of Putin’s nuclear threat

New York: US President Joe Biden spoke on Thursday about nuclear “Armageddon” in a warning about the escalation of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Biden warned of the “attack” on US institutions and spoke of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threat of using nuclear weapons at the New York home of James Murdoch, the son of media baron Rupert Murdoch. “We haven’t seen the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis,” Biden said in New York City. Speaking to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Biden said Putin is “not joking when he talks about using tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons.” This is because, Biden said, “his army is — you could say — significantly underperforming,” I’m trying to figure out, what is Putin’s off-ramp?” Biden said.

“Where does he find a way out? Where is he in a position where he not only loses face, but also loses significant power within Russia?” According to a polar report, Biden told attendees at the event, “think there’s such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.”

Putin renewed his nuclear threats when he announced the annexation of Ukrainian territory, some of which Russia does not control, and called for 300,000 reservists to bolster his invasion. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had threatened to use a nuclear weapon in Ukraine as Russia’s “territorial integrity”, sparking deep discussions in the West.

“Those who try to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the wind can also turn in their direction,” Putin said, adding: “This is not a bluff.”
