‘We would have Shivaji Park for Dussehra if…,’ Eknath Shinde’s BIG statement

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Sunday that his faction of the Shiv Sena would have been given the Shivaji Park site in central Mumbai as the venue for his Dussehra rally had he intervened as CM in the matter. In a shot in the arm for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena faction, the Bombay High Court granted permission on September 23 to hold its annual Dussehra rally at the iconic Shivaji Park grounds in Dadar.

The Shinde-led faction had also requested permission to hold the rally at the same location on the same day (October 5), and opposed the Thackeray group’s petition to the Supreme Court.

When asked about it, Shinde told reporters that his party’s leaders and workers had demanded Shivaji Park for the rally, but how they order of the supreme court.

“Had I intervened as Prime Minister, we would have gotten Shivaji Park for the rally. But as CM, it is my duty to ensure peace and harmony. So we decided to go to the MMRDA site in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC ) to go.” he said.

For the Thackeray faction, the Supreme Court decision in its favor has symbolic value if: Shivaji Park is associated with the Sena since her birth, and his group is locked in a battle with the rebel group led by CM Shinde to establish himself as the ‘real’ Shiv Sena.
