‘We’re thinking about the next Asian Games’: Tamil Thalaivas coach shares big update on Pawan Sehrawat’s return in PKL 9


The new season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) has just started and Tamil Thalaivas, who is in 10th place on the points list of 12 teams, has already suffered a serious injury. Pawan Sehrawatiwhich was brought in by Thalaivas for a whooping prize money of 2.26 crore, making him the most expensive player of PKL 2022injured his knees in Thalaivas’ opening match against Gujarat Giants and has since been eliminated.

His absence has certainly hurt the team, which lost 22-27 to Haryana Steelers in their previous game. Thalaivas coach J Udaya shared an update on Pawan’s return to action, labeling the player a “national treasure”, also indicating he will not be rushed back to the mat.

“Pawan is important not only to us, but to all of India. He is a national treasure. We are thinking about the next Asian Games. The team management is not willing to take any risks.

“We will wait until he is fully fit and then we will bring him back into the playing seven. Hopefully he recovers quickly and returns to the mat,” the coach said during the press conference after the game on Monday.

Although Thalaivas lost the match, defender Sagar Rathee’s performance will certainly be one of the positives that management will take out of the match. Rathee completed a High 5 against the Steelers.

Thalaivas have yet to open their account in the competition. They had made a 31 draw against Gujarat earlier in the competition.

What is High 5 in Kabaddi?

A defender is said to reach High 5 when he/she scores five or more tackle points in a single match.
