‘You are polluting the minds of the young generation’: SC lashes out at Ekta Kapoor over ‘XXX’

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday slammed producer Ekta Kapoor over “objectionable content” in her web series ‘XXX’, saying it polluted the minds of this country’s young generation.

The highest court heard a plea from Kapoor challenging the arrest warrants issued against her for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the feelings of their families in the web series aired on her OTT platform ALTBalaji.

“Something has to be done. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country. It is available to everyone. OTT (Over The Top) content is available to everyone. What choice are you giving people? …On the contrary, you pollute the minds of young people,” said a bench of judges Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar.

The court made the comment after senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, who appeared before Kapoor, indicated that a petition has been filed with the Patna Supreme Court, but there is no hope the case will be heard in court soon.

He said the highest court had previously granted protection to Kapoor in a similar case.

Rohatgi said the content is subscription based and there is freedom of choice in this country. The court, which did not impose any costs, then wondered what choice people would have.

“Any time you travel to this court… we do not appreciate this. We will charge you a fee for filing such a petition. Mr Rohatgi, please pass this on to your client. Simply because you have the services of good lawyers…. This court is not for those who have votes.

“This court works for those who have no voice… If these people who have all kinds of facilities, if they cannot get justice, then think of the situation of this common man. We have seen the warrant and we have our reservations”, the bank noted.

The Supreme Court held the case pending and suggested that a local attorney be hired to learn more about the status of the hearing in the Supreme Court. A court in Begusarai in Bihar had issued the order on a complaint filed by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman.

Kumar, in his 2020 complaint, the alleged ‘XXX’ (Season-2) series contained several offensive scenes involving a soldier’s wife.
