Explained: How to Book Delhi Metro Tickets on WhatsApp? Step-by-step guide


Delhi Metro is working to make travel easier for commuters. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is moving in the same direction, partnering with WhatsApp to book online metro tickets. The new service is currently available on the Airport Express Line as part of the pilot project. It is worth noting that these services were available with Bengaluru and Chennai Metro ahead of the national capital. The new move comes after DMRC introduced QR code-based paper tickets for all subway stations.

How to Book Delhi Metro Ticket on WhatsApp?

Step 1: Delhi metro commuters can start the process by sending “Hello” to DMRC official WhatsApp number i.e. 9650855800. In response, user is given option to choose Hindi or English for further process.

Step 2: After the language selection, a message appears with several options. Options include “Buy Ticket”, “Last Travel Tickets” and “Get Ticket”. The commuters can proceed by selecting “Buy Ticket”.

Step 3: The WhatsApp chat will now search for the details of the number of passengers traveling. Once the number is sent, the app will return with trip details including number of passengers, source station, destination, date of travel and ticket/ticket price.

Step 4: Once the commuter has confirmed the details, he will receive a confirmation message and a link for payment of the fare.

Step 5: Once the payment is successful, the commuter will receive the QR-based ticket on WhatsApp. This ticket can be used at the scanners at AFC gates for entry and exit.

Delhi Metro Stations With Whatsapp Ticket Booking Facility

New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kaun, Delhi Aerocity, IGI Airport and Dwarka Sector 21 are among the stations now operational. Soon it should be accessible at more metro stations.

Restrictions of booking Delhi Metro Ticket on WhatsApp

Currently, the new ability to book Delhi Metro tickets using Whatsapp has its limitations. For example, a commuter using the facility can have a maximum of 6 QR tickets per trip. In addition, the QR tickets obtained are only valid until the end of the day. The validity decreases to 65 minutes once the commuter enters a gate. In addition, the tickets can only be booked during opening hours and cannot be cancelled. Add to the list: If a person wants to exit the same subway station, he/she must do so within 30 minutes.
